Jesús Vallejo Leaves Real Madrid: Club Announces Defender’s Departure

Vallejo Leaves Real Madrid and Will Not Play in the Club World Cup. The club announces the departure of the Spanish defender, who becomes a free agent

It was an expected departure, and this afternoon Real Madrid made it official. Jesús Vallejo is no longer part of the club and becomes a free agent. The club announced the center-back’s exit in a statement after five seasons wearing the white shirt.

Vallejo’s appearances for Madrid have been almost symbolic. The defender only played in four La Liga matches this season, three of them coming in the final stretch of the campaign. Despite injuries in the defense, Vallejo remained in the background due to the coach’s lack of trust and his own history with injuries.

Achievements with Real Madrid

Still, the center-back leaves with a trophy haul that few can match. During his five seasons at the club, the Spaniard won 2 Champions League titles, 4 Club World Cups, 1 La Liga, 1 Copa del Rey, 3 UEFA Super Cups, and 2 Spanish Super Cups — 13 titles in total.

Vallejo bids farewell to a Madrid side he joined in July 2015. Along the way, he was loaned out to Real Zaragoza (the club where he made his debut and from which Madrid signed him), Eintracht Frankfurt, Wolverhampton, and Granada.
