Lamine Yamal has finished an incredible season. Throughout the season, he contributed to Barcelona’s consecutive wins by scoring goals and assisting goals. Even after spending a wonderful entire season, Yamal’s ending was filled with regret. Despite showing potential, the Champions League trophy remained elusive.

Still, the feats Yamal achieved at just 17 years old playing for Barcelona are unparalleled. Recently, in an interview after the season, Yamal talked about various topics, shedding light on his own and the team’s performance during the season. He also spoke about his present and future.

“It’s Impossible to Play for Real Madrid” – Yamal

In the interview given to the Spanish media outlet ‘El Partidazo de Cope’, Yamal was asked about the possibility of ever playing for Real Madrid in the future. In response, Yamal said, “It is impossible for me to ever play for Real Madrid in my career.”

Yamal came from Barcelona’s youth academy La Masia. Although he is only 17, he is not just Barcelona’s future but its present. His relationship with this club is more than the usual player-club relationship. Therefore, for Yamal, considering Real Madrid — Barcelona’s eternal rival — is truly impossible.

Buying and selling players between Real Madrid and Barcelona is somewhat ‘forbidden.’ Although there is no formal agreement, both parties have accepted this for many years. Besides, Yamal is surely aware of what might happen if he establishes himself as a star at Barcelona and then moves to Real Madrid.

In 2000, when Luis Figo left Barcelona for Real Madrid, it became a scandal. Even when Figo played for Real Madrid at Camp Nou, people threw a pig’s head at him.

Besides dismissing the possibility of going to Real Madrid, Yamal also talked about his goals for the next season in the same interview: “I will improve every year. Next year, I will score more goals, provide more assists, and be physically stronger than now.”

At the same time, Yamal wants to change people’s perception about Barcelona: “We are improving, but we have to believe we are the best. When Madrid lost to Arsenal, everyone still believed in their comeback. But after we drew with Inter, everyone doubted us. This needs to change.”
